Too much of a good idea Aug 22, 2009
By Roz We love Apples to Apples and we had gone through all of our cards a few times. New cards seemed like the logical choice. However, additional variety in this expansion set would have made things even more fun. All the cards are in the format of "____ and ____", like "sugar and spice" or "hot and spicy". They did add a freshness to our play, but are sometimes very difficult to play with. You might want to buy this, so long as you know what you are in for. We mixed them in with our original set and are having fun with them.

Cash-in expansion Mar 19, 2010
By Laplacetransformer This expansion comes with a new pack of cards that are mostly of the form ___ and ___. This may sound like a good idea, but it is clear that the designers didn't really think it through. Some of the red (noun) cards are simply poor combinations (e.g. "Whips & Chains"). For some red cards, there was absolutely no need to make it a combination (e.g. "The Atlantic & Pacific"). And in some cases, you have red cards that don't even qualify as nouns (e.g. "Crash & Burn"). To make things worse, they've adopted the same format for the green (adjective) cards, with adjectives that often contradict eachother (e.g. "Naughty & Nice" or "High & Low"), which makes the whole game difficult to play. There are some good cards, but they are few and far between.
Overall, this expansion was both difficult to play and very unrewarding. It does not live up to the standards of the original.

Bad Expansion to a Great Game Jan 01, 2010

We love the original "Apples to Apples" game. We bought the Expansion 1 set to go with our original game since we wanted more cards to go with it. The Expansion cards have "________and________" for the subject titles and I think that is the reason we disliked it so much. We didn't have any great laughing moments with these cards. It says to include it with the original game. I just don't care for the card format to do that.

apples to apples expansion Jan 12, 2009
wonderful addition to the already wonderful game - gives you a new level to play on -- i own both expansion packs and it makes the game go for a long time and that is what our family likes - we mixed both expansion packs with the original game cards so you never know what sort of card you will draw - unique & very fun!

TWO BIG THUMBS UP! Aug 18, 2011
By CatWmn00079 I read someone else's review on the Apples to Apples Expansion Pack #1 and it's wrong. It states all cards are in the format ____&____. This statement is 100% incorrect. Yes, the new stacks include ____&____ formats which add to the F.U.N. of Apples to Apples but there's plenty of single worded cards within the decks. I am one happy purchaser of Expansion Pack #1 and can't wait to add it to my original box and play with family!!! Don't hesitate to buy this expansion pack!!
