Nice idea, but those are the breaks Dec 24, 2010
By S. B. Royster Adding pencils to the Twistable trend seemed like a neat idea. But if the "leads" breaks in the pencil, they are unusuable because they wiggle back and forth in the plastic holder. And they do break - of our 18, about 4 or 5 are out of commission already. If the leads come out, they can't be used independently because they're too fragile to be held by hand. Too fragile for constructive use. (Amanda's point about their non-biodegradability is well-taken, and rhyming!)
What a Joke! Mar 04, 2012
By Anonymous_me I saw this item for the first time just one day before writing this review. I learned of the item on Amazon. I felt I could use another color or 2 for several things I do. ------------------- Since I wasn't ready to order enough to get free shipping, I went to the local chain drugstore. The price comes out about the same as Amazon's, after taking tax into account. --------------------------------- So I bought these locally. I returned them within an hour. Here's why: about half the colors were unable to leave a truly visible mark. The yellow(maybe there were 2 shades of yellow, I don't remember) left a mark that you had to work very hard to see. If you didn't know I'd made a yellow mark, I'll bet you wouldn't have known I'd used the pencil. --------------------------- There's a white pencil in the set, this obviously won't show up on a white paper. But I had the receipt for this set, and at the top, in large, bold, black letters was the store's name. So I tried making the white pencil show up on the black letters of the receipt. No go. So--what was the point of that color? ------------------- I found this to be true of about half the colors--they wouldn't show up on white paper, they wouldn't show up on black backgrounds. ----------------------------- I took them back for a refund. I pity the kid who gets these as a gift, gets excited, only to find that about half the set is unusable. And of the half that did leave a visible mark, I can't say whether it was erasable, whether it would last, nor can I make any statement about the suitability of that half. I was so disappointed/disgusted, I just wanted to return them. ----------------------------------- This is the first time, when rating something, I was asked about the item's "play value". I think the frustration a kid would experience would be awful. Shame on Crayola for even selling this set. ------------------------------- I should state that I used the pencils mostly on the receipt. I bought a standard mechanical pencil, at the same time I bought this set, which worked just fine on the receipt.(Bic Atlantis) If anything, one would think the colored pencils would work better on paper that might be mildly glossy, like a receipt. Nope. Colored pencils are usually kinda waxy, or contain clay, or something, that would probably make them work better than a standard pencil on the receipt. ---------------------------- Pass on this, half the set is unusable. Whether the usable half of the set will hold up or performs well long-term, I can't say. ---------------------------- Made in China. -------------------- After writing this, I read the other reviews. Evidently, once a lead breaks, the pencils are useless, according to a couple reviews already written by others. I assure you, these leads WILL break in a kid's hands. Half the colors are barely visible. A normal response would be to push harder, and that would break the lead. I didn't break any leads, but I'm an adult, and I know there's a limit to how much pressure the lead in a mechanical pencil can withstand. A kid won't understand, and almost surely will really push down on these, almost guaranteeing the leads break. My opinion, but probably right.

Worst Products Jul 09, 2011
By Jimbone These are by far the worst products from Crayola. I am so disappointed that Crayola would release such a product that is so substandard in quality. The leads have broken off on several of the pencils & my daughter has not had a chance to enjoy playing with them. As one of the reviewer has accurately stated, once the leads break off, it's unusable! Not worth the money spent. My confidence in Crayola's products has diminished drastically.
Ok, but I prefer the non twistables Jun 22, 2011
By Nolan's Mom I understand the draw to twistable colored pencils, and they work OK but I prefer the originals for ease of use. My son tends to twist these too high and gets frustrated using them.
