 Maddening packaging - thin sticks Jul 07, 2009

Overall a nice product because it gives you lots of different colors that other manufacturers don't. The sticks are shrink wrapped inside the box in groups of four which makes it rather time consuming to unpack. The sticks themselves are thinner than other brands which makes them go faster and makes for more breaking in the hands of the little ones.

Each stick measures 4 1/8 inches long and 7/8 inches in diameter. Thick enough to be quite sturdy, we haven't had any break.

Crayola Multi-Colored Chalk Oct 16, 2009

The Crayola multi-colored chalk is beneficial for both adults and youth. Kids may use it for a number of art projects or for a standard chalk board. We also use it to draw erasable signs on different surfaces. For fun, family and artsy friends add to our group collage wall. As an example, for a child's party, the chalk was used to write "Happy Birthday" with large colorful letters on an outside wall, which we later hosed off easily.
Although we appreciate the packaging made from recyclable carton, the former plastic tub was sturdier for the weight of this product.
At a very reasonable price, this chalk was well worth the expense.

These chalks are more than half the price of what Amazon is charging at every brick & mortar store that I've seen them at. Heck, at the beginning of summer I bought it for $2.99. I am giving this three stars because the chalks themselves are good (nice and fat for little hands to hold onto) and I love all the different colors. Based on Amazon's pricing I'd give this one star and based on the chalk's quality, etc. I'd give it five stars. That's the reasoning for three stars.

Works Great on Our Chalkboard Wall Nov 16, 2010

We have a wall that has been painted with chalkboard paint. I'd originally bought regular skinny chalkboard chalk (not Crayola brand though), but my kids (ages 1 and 3) broke it immediately. Actually, to be honest, I broke the first piece the second I wrote on the board. In any case, the skinny chalk just isn't strong enough for my little ones (who really weren't that hard on the chalk). I wanted to buy them sidewalk chalk because it is so much thicker and stronger, but was worried it wouldn't erase off of the chalkboard without being washed off. Walmart had Crayola 20pc sidewalk chalk for $2.47 so I decided to buy it and try it. Well, it works great on our chalkboard wall and erases just as well as the regular skinny chalk did. You can still see faint lines after wiping with a felt eraser, but it's so faint it doesn't stop my kids from continuing to draw. And the lines completely disappear when wiped with a damp paper towel or sponge (which I do every night when I clean the board off for the next day). So, all you parents out there with toddlers that break up the skinny chalk within minutes of opening the box...give this sidewalk chalk a try. It's strong and works great on chalkboards too. (BTW: It also seems to produce less dust.)
