Poor quality since production moved to Mexico May 25, 2010

Since Dixon moved production of their pencils to Mexico the quality has suffered. I went through a box in 2 days because the lead kept breaking and falling out of the pencil. When you try to sharpen it, the lead breaks inside of the wood pencil body and falls out. DO NOT BUY!!! Ticondaroga's used to be my favorite, now Papermate Mirado Black Warrior's are.

Great pencil, history Sep 27, 2009
By c2 Since Ticonderoga pencils have been around for decades, you come to expect great quality. Although no longer made here for some reason, they have managed to maintain their superior quality. We use these exclusively in our schools and there's never a worry about the durability of them during test time. I do suggest, however, that you get the ones with the Microban to help ward of germs. LOVE those! Highly recommend!

Very poor quality Jan 20, 2011
By emre abdik I bought Ticonderoga a few years ago from the USA and now I ordered from Amazon . The one that I purchased was a wonderful pencil and it was marked as USA. The one that I bought from Amazon is horrible quality as if it is chinese made . I believe Dixon has changed its production center or outsource them to a third party. In any case I do not understand why they cannot manage to keep same quality level . ?
You will certainly be disappointed if you except the same quality level in 2007s

Plummet in quality Feb 25, 2012

I am a first grade teacher. I've taught elementary school children of all levels for 26 years. Here is the scoop: Ticonderoga is no longer the best. Dixon is fallen. Crashed. Broken. Kapput.
This is the problem: Americans buy cheap and don't support labor unions, so Dixon goes along for the lower price production, overseas. The pencils get shipped more times, make more stops for changes of vehicle, customs inspections, reloading, re-sorting... Every single time a box of pencils gets moved, it gets tossed, slapped down, shoved and bumped. That puts a lot of stress on the pencils inside. Wooden pencils can't take that kind of abuse. Now Americans are getting what we paid for: cheap pieces of lead cased in nice American wood. Oh, and there is A LOT more wasted time in classrooms, trying to get a pencil sharp. Ticonderoga's overseas business is contributing to lowering American instructional efficiency. Don't bother buying from them until they return production to the USA. I'll be happy to pay more, keeping fellow Americans employed and teaching without so many interruptions to class.

I've never been able to find presharpened pencils for my kids for the start of the school year. It sure beats sharpening 60 pencils!
