 First and Second Grade Money Flash Cards Jan 24, 2011

These flash cards use the Hot Dots pen to self-correct your child as they learn. Using one of the flash cards, the child will choose the correct answer to the problem presented. They touch the circle next to the answer they select using the pen. The pen will flash a red light and/or make a sound if they are wrong. If they are correct, the pen will flash a green light and/or make a sound.
The cards are double-sided, so there is a problem on each side. The answers are not on the cards themselves. The answers are given on a separate sheet of paper included with the cards.
The cards have a white plastic index-card size case to store them in.
The cards are partially colored. The coins are presented in the correct colors (such as bronze pennies and silver quarters), but the paper money is just grey. There are drawings of piggy banks, dinosaur banks, wallets, purses, and jars.
On some cards, the child must select how much money is in the bank. On other cards, they must select the item they can purchase with the coins they were given (the items are marked with prices).
I would recommend these for first or second graders for reinforcement of school work.
The cards do not come with the Hot Dots pen, so you will need to purchase that if you do not have it already.

Flash Cards Money is one of a number of Hot Dots materials we use at our learning center. It adds another option to our workbooks and manipulatives. Students like the instant feedback the Hot Dots system provides as well as the sounds, speech , and flashing lights of the Hot Dots pen.
The cards provide a variety of practice with different kinds of problems presented on the cards. We like that each side of the card presents a different money problem. The images of coins and bills on the cards are photographic, much more effective than monetary sketches.
Students enjoy using these cards; they can be used by themselves or in conjuction with real coins and bills to teach money concepts. I think the price for the set of cards and the Hot Dots pen (sold separately) is reasonable.
Keep extra batteries on hand for the pen.

I had to sort through the cards so my students could answer the cards that they knew, but the ones that they didn't I was able to give to 1st grade and they could use the whole pack. Highly Recommend!
