I bought these to use with kids 2, 4, and 5 years old. They only focus right in the very middle of the magnifying glass (the field of focus is small) and they are quite heavy for being plastic. They have a flip up ring that seems very fragile - the kids haven't broken them yet, but I generally just didn't let them flip the rings when they first got them and I think they forgot about them.
Good things - you get quite a few in the set and the kids liked the different colors.
I think money would be better spent on a better quality magnifier. These have such a small field of focus and are so cumbersome that the kids don't use them that much. They do like to pretend to use them, but don't really look at the stuff through them (because it is blurry, I think).

Our 2 year old son just loves his Learning Resources Jumbo Magnifiers - Set of 6! 1 wouldn't be enough and 6 is just perfect for when the cousins come over. We also have one in the diaper bag and my purse for when we are out and about and need to magnify something. You would be surprised how often this can come in handy! They are GREAT quality and the feature I didn't know it had, but is awesome, is a stand for when you want to put something under the magnifying glass and he's able to get hands on with it because both hands are free thanks to the built in stand! This is a GREAT product and it helps makes adventures so much more fun! A product I also suggest to buy with these are the Learning Resources Easy Grip Tweezers (LER1963).

These are GREAT! My soon has had one for ages, the kindy uses them too. They are great presents for kids from 2-6yrs and bright colours too. The only issue I have had is the stand that folds out can be a bit too flimsy and likely to bend to far and break with out enough care.
Another point is the shipping weight for the Amazon purchase is incorrect, it most certainly doesn't weigh 9lb. I contacted amazon and they refunded the additional shipping fee. The box itself weighs more like 2lb. So if you are paying the shipping (I am in Australia so have to pay by weight) then I suggest checking 1st with Amazon.

overall I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I am using these for 3, 4, and 5 year olds and needed them large and sturdy. The only part I'm worried about is the stand, it seems like it might break off easy.

I love these magnifying glasses. Very child-friendly and gave my students another tool to utilize and be excited about in the classroom.
