Wonderful! Jun 12, 2010 We bought this for my four year old daughter as a gift. I was a bit nervous that the ladybugs wouldn't make it as many of the reviews had mentioned, but decided to take the chance anyway. I was happy I did. Surprisingly, every single one of our larva turned into a ladybug. I think I was more excited than my daughter to watch the transformation into ladybugs. My daughter did enjoy keeping the watering pad moist to "care" for the little critters. One of our ladybugs was a bit of a late bloomer. I thought for sure he didn't make it, but two days after the rest had emerged from their pupa, that one finally did.
Ladybug Land of Education Jun 09, 2010 It's hard to imagine an easier life-cycle set up. Watch the larvae turn into adult ladybugs over a two week period of observation, then let them go in the roses out back. I learned a ton, since I'd not seen a ladybug larvae, or a ladybug's cocoon before. My girls drew pictures as the insects changed form, kept little journals of what they saw, and took pride in keeping their "little pets" and letting them go. Way better than a puppy, and way more educational. I highly recommend for anyone with children from say, 3 to 15.
Ladybug Lover's Dream Come True Jun 07, 2010 My 5-year old daughter and I just released our adult ladybugs into our yard this morning. It was a wonderful experience, from start to finish! Our first batch of ladybug larvae didn't seem to be doing very well, so I called Customer Service and they quickly shipped out another batch of larvae, which was much appreciated. We ended up with approximately ten ladybugs growing to maturity and it was pretty fascinating. The dome lid sits very loosely on top of the Ladybug Land, so I put two pieces of scotch tape on each end so little fingers wouldn't knock it off by accident. The larvae and ladybugs would hardly move until I shone a light on them while observing, so if you want some action, this seems to wake them up. Then they scoot all over the place! Two of our ladybugs were having an "intimate moment" this morning as we went to release them, which was hilarious to explain to my daughter. She can hardly wait to see the new baby ladybugs that will be arriving in our yard! We will be definitely be ordering anther batch of larvae to start again, it's a very educational and fun project.
Tried it Twice, Disappointed Jun 06, 2010 After the first disappointment, I decided to try again and order the lady bug larvae a second season. Just the larvae cost about as much as the entire kit itself. When it arrived, we followed the directions exactly. Sadly, there were only 4 living larvae (whereas the material promised something like 15) and they all died within 3 days. Even more disappointing, I wrote a letter to the company explaining my unhappiness, and they never wrote back. After mostly dead larvae twice now and poor customer service, I cannot recommend this kit.
NEAT CYCLE May 29, 2010 This is a really cool house and teaches kids about a ladybug life cycle. Who knew the actually have a cocoon stage. The larvae arrived with most of them alive and was available in February. The only thing I didn't expect was I had to pay for shipping and handling on the ladybug larvae. House seller was good and item arrived on time in good condition.
