Good learning playbook devise Jun 01, 2010 It has a snowman shape which I think is safe for my 2 year old daughter.
She seems to like playing w/ those leapfrog books.
Somewhat hard to replace 2AAA baterries, easy enough to go on-line and download contents for books you purchased.
GREAT Learning Tool for Toddlers... May 05, 2010 I purchased this for my 2 year old son, and we BOTH love it! I also purchased a few more books at the same time, but so far, his favorite is the 'Cars' shapes book. Jr. is so easy for toddlers to use, and the large body makes it simple for children to grip and place exactly where they want him. The voice is crisp, clear, and child-like...not a boring robotic sound.
One of the only downsides is the USB slot is in the battery compartment, so you have to take the cover off if you want to add or remove books. Not a huge deal since you shouldn't need to do this too often, but a slight pain. Overall though, I absolutely recommend this. I just love LeapFrog products as they're so easy to use, and great tools for learning. I've been recommend little Tag Jr. to all my friends with toddlers!
Works Great Even For Mac Users Apr 20, 2010 I was a little nervous about buying this since we have a Mac at our house and all the negative reviews seemed say it didn't work for a mac. But I knew that Amazon had a great return policy, so I figured I'd just send it back if I couldn't get it to work on the Mac.
In less than 5 minutes, I had the software downloaded from LeapFrog (they make a version just for Macs), the books installed, the batteries put in and everything connected and working. It wasn't difficult AT ALL. All I did was follow the instructions.
I love that the Tag Junior says different things if my son puts it in the same spot more than once.
Also, one reviewer complained that you have to use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment to connect the USB driver. First, I would say that you can actually use a coin (it's not a small screwdriver slot) which makes it easy to open. Secondly, I'm glad the USB drive is hidden in the battery compartment. When you have a two year old using an electronic product, I'm afraid he would try to shove something in the USB connector slot (he's always trying to shove things in the USB slot on my laptop), so I would say smart design on LeapFrog's part.
Love the product!
Fun, educational toy - a must have! Apr 12, 2010 I purchased the Tag Jr in February for my twins' 3rd birthday. They were preemies so they're developmentally behind other kids in their age group. My son especially has problems holding small items, so the bulky shape of the Tag Jr is perfect for his grasp. My son absolutely loves books and reading and uses the Tag Jr several times a day, every single day. I bought the Curious George colors book since my kids were struggling with their colors, and my son is now a pro at colors! I also got the Disney Cars books that teaches shapes - my barely 3 yr old son knows what an oval and a diamond are because of that book! It's incredible. He has learned so much and he's so engrossed in the books.
I was concerned when I bought it that they wouldn't know how to properly use it, but it is definitely tailored to the 2-4 age group. Kids can put the Tag Jr literally anywhere on the pages of the book and get some kind of response through the speaker. My son has had so much fun exploring the different places on the pages. He has his favorite spots too that he revisits over and over again in certain books.
It's very easy to set up the Tag Jr on your computer. I LOVE that you can customize the device to say your child's name - my son absolutely lights up every time he turns it on and hears his name!
It's a toy that can be used independently which I think really boosts kids' self-esteem. My son knows exactly how to turn the Tag Jr on and off, work the volume, etc. We got the bag to go along with it and it's easy for him to open the bag, sit down with a book and the device, and read all by himself.
I know I'm going on and on, but as a mother and an elementary school teacher, I can't say enough great things about the Tag Jr!! Every kid should have one! It's a much better way to keep your child occupied while you cook dinner than the TV is. :)
My son LOVES this toy!!! Apr 02, 2010 I'm a huge reader and it was very important for me to get my son into reading. He has the carrying bag for this and 5 books. He learned right away (got this at 18mo) how to unzip the bag and take out his books. Of course his entertainment sometimes consists of just turning the unit on and off. His current fav book is the Backyardigans but we used to play games with the Curious George Color Fun book. We would play "Where is ....?" and then he'd have to find it with the reader. The books also play those games with you but he doesn't listen as well to those just yet. We're working on it, though! Definitely recommend this. Only downside is having to hook it up to the computer and download audio etc. Plus it only holds 5 books so we can't really expand our library without losing something he already enjoys. Otherwise, LOVE it!
