Excellent set: A comparison to other brands Feb 18, 2011
By Elizabeth M. Callahan II We ordered two brands of these styles of block sets, one of this brand and one in Melissa and Doug brand. This brand has large pieces that are easy for small hands to handle. This set also poses no choking hazard. The pieces from the M&D set are tiny in comparison and are almost all of choking hazard size. These pieces are painted wood. The M&D set is pressed wood, smells of formaldehyde upon opening, and the top layer is cardboard paper with color on it (the paper chip and peels off easily). The quality of this set is so far superior and of the quality that could be used for years with many children in a classroom, whereas the M&D set wouldn't last in our house for a week likely. Spend the extra few dollars, the Learning Resources brand is good!

Parquerty Block Set ... Plus and Minus Sep 03, 2007
By Gerald Baden This Parquetry Set is being used to aid brain injured patients understand and develop pattern concepts. The set would be physically much easier to use if the pattern sheets were contained within a frame which would prevent the blocks from moving during assembly.

Parquetry Blocks Apr 06, 2009

An excellent, enjoyable, educational toy to grow up on. Ages 3+ will love spending time with this pre-school-kindergarten must have. Helpful for learning colors, shapes and doing puzzles. Especially like the growing sequence that allows you to start building within the frame to building outside the frame; as well as on the pattern sheets, from lined to unlined. As a retired kindergarten teacher, this was a stable in my classroom. Blocks are very durable, but I usually built a wooden frame to hold them.

Only one Child can realistically Play with this Oct 23, 2011
By N I bought this for my three kids as a "surprise" toy on random day. They instantly loved it, however, almost all the patterns require you to use all the available blocks, so they of course were fighting over who would get which block. Working together as a team on this toy isn't all that fun. The blocks themselves are made from a nice thick wood and the pattern boards are a heavy weight cardboard. Overall, I am happy with this purchase, but if you have more than one kid, you should get additional blocks (which I am not sure if they sell them separately or not) OR just buy a whole other set.
It's hard to beat a classic Mar 24, 2009

I love parquetry blocks! They're great for open-ended creative play, and are a fun way for kids to work on spatial reasoning skills.
The pattern cards are a fun bonus, but hardly essential.
