worthless sharpener Nov 29, 2010
The blade was not sharp enough. The spring became loose only after a few days of use. Ultimately the blades came out!!!

Does not sharpen Jun 09, 2010
By haystack When I tried to sharpen my pencils using the one I got from Amazon, it left my pencils dull. It never did sharpen all the way to the tip, so I'm guessing something was out of alignment. I borrowed another sharpener, which worked great, so it's probably not just me.
It is what it looks like - very cheap.

Makes a Point Oct 31, 2011
By Spudman I bought this manual sharpener because it was a gold box special for $1.50, not because of the mostly unfavorable reviews here. The sharpeners come in assorted colors, so by the luck of the draw I got one with a yellow bottom . After sharpening six pencils with my new sharpener, I asked my tutoring student to try it and asked our office manager to give it a try.
All of my pencils sharpened with ease and the pencils sharpened by my "volunteer helpers" also finished with sharp, usable points. Long term I don't know how this sharpener will fare, but in a pinch and for such a small amount of money, this little sharpener will work for this Potato Head just fine.
Many similar sharpeners open too easily resulting in spilled pencil shavings in backbacks or pockets. The two pieces of this sharpener fit together snugly enough to preclude such accidents, though over time and after many emptyings there may be some deterioration of tightness.
Operates without batteries or electricity. Portable.
Cost is small potatoes.
Don't buy this!! Nov 02, 2011
By Nicole of Jersey One day I asked my boyfriend to buy a cheap pencil sharpener from the super market he works in. The cheapest they had was this exact model from this exact brand...at under $1, so he picked it up.
This cheapo thing barely sharpens make-up pencils, let along actual pencils. It's crap, don't get it! I actually only made a review for this because this came up in my search for a better pencil sharpener.
Don't waste $5 on this thing.
