Not as good as it seems Apr 30, 2010 I was disappointed to find that this toy was Styrofoam, there wasn't enough dirt included, and the seeds had expired two years ago.

Styrofoam??? Feb 21, 2010 I think this is a great idea. Let's teach children the importance of good healthy food, how it grows, how growing our own food can be rewarding and fun! It's truly a miracle what dirt, water and a seed can do. Our planet is amazing. But while we are at it, let us also teach our children how to be respectful of this planet that we are all systematically destroying. How can we teach this by having them grow something in a container made out of styrofoam? Polystyrene plastic will not breakdown in the environment even after 1000 years. It's petroleum based and no organism on earth eats petro based products, which means it won't break down and that these little "natural gardens" will be around polluting our planet for several millennium. Shame on you HSP "Nature Toys"
Really neat and educational Jan 13, 2010 I purchased this as a Christmas gift. I have a daughter that has a green thumb and this is really taking off and it's only January 12th! Yes, it's Styrofoam, that doesn't concern me. I like the point that it is built in such a way that you don't need to water it all the time. Plus my daughter is older and doesn't try to over handle the farm or have in a place that makes it vulnerable to dropping or knocking over.
There were plenty of extra seeds that she planted those as well in various containers. This is a very good experience for all of us, we like watching veggies grow in the middle of winter.
Good Purchase Jan 07, 2010 My 9 yr old daughter is thrilled that her seeds are now growing into plants. The assembly is only a couple of simple steps. The dirt comes in solid round wafers that you toss in a mixing bowl, add water and stir. Spoon dirt into planter, add seeds close to plexiglass and the roots are visible in a few days!
