The best Leapster game to start with! Mar 25, 2010 My son just turned three and he LOVES this game. He can do it all by himself, which makes him feel like a big kid. The cartridge comes with several games, all a lot of fun for his age group. Each game has three levels, for beginners, kids who are starting to master each activity, and kiddos who need a challenge. His favorite is the monster builder. It starts with a picture of a monster to memorize. When you press the electrode (my son's new favorite word!) the monster comes apart, and you have to rebuild it. It's great for memorization, and there's a hint button if you need to take one more peek at the monster. There's also a bridge building game, where you have to build a bridge using different-shaped pieces to get your creature from one end to the other, a space ship game to master the arrow keys, and a construction game that teaches basic math.
The only drawback to this game (and it's not much of one!) is that it's sometimes hard to use the stylus. With the monster builder especially, there are several pieces sometimes directly on top of each other, and you need to select a piece, drag it to where it goes, then lift up on the pen. If you click a little to the side or lift up slightly, you lose your piece. It frustrated my son a bit at first, but it's all part of the learning process.
Overall, we love this game in our house and I couldn't recommend it more!
A leapster winer Mar 23, 2010 Good for the older non reader. My daughter has down syndrome and cannot read but loves puzzles and computer games. As she gets older (13) I find it difficult to find games interesting enough (not too babyish) that she can do as a non reader. This was a winner!!
One of the best! Mar 03, 2010 This is definitely one of my girls favorite games. I have a 3 and a 5 year old daughters. I would say their most played games are this, Kindergarten, Letters on the Loose, and Pet Pals. We also have a Diego, a Princess, a Nemo, and an I Spy game that get occassional play.
I would have to disagree with the person who does not think this game is educational! It tests math skills, memory skills, problem solving! I think it is a wonderful game, fun AND educational!
huge hit, more so than character games Feb 12, 2010 We have 6 leapster games and this one is second only to Puppy Pals. I am really impressed with the games on this cartridge. I know it has helped with word recognition for my kindergartner. Even my 3 & 1/2 year old can play this game; but the levels get hard enough I know that my older child will not get bored with the games.
Keeps her Busy Jan 27, 2010 She seems to really enjoy this Leapster game. Keeps her busy and makes her think.
I bought this and the Leapster because I thought a 5yr old is too young for a DS.
Working out just fine. For now.
