A splendid way for children to learn classification skills and develop logical thinking through fun play! Recognizing shapes and shape names, colors, counting, and grouping are just some of the learning possibilities. Kit includes fifty pieces with five different shapes and five different colors. The pieces are made with a center hole to fit on to the base which serves as an abacus. Eighteen pattern cards are also included, encouraging the following of directions and making a fun memory game. Great for Early Learners of all abilities! Feb 17, 2009

This toy is great! I am an early childhood special educator that works with birth to three aged children and I have used it (supervised) with my kiddos of typical development, special needs, and children with autism that had the fine motor skills to put the shapes on the post. It has several shapes and colors that when matched on the appropriately colored posts aid in sorting and matching skills and are fun to watch as they go down the different shaped posts. It is a great way to work on pre-language skills and signs by holding a bunch and giving then a couple at a time encouraging the word or sign for 'more.' Great toy! The only downfall is that the holes are small and it is definitely geared toward the other 2's to 3's, but a great way to communicate, use circles of communication, interact, engage, play, and learn!

My kids love this toy and can play with it for hours.
It teaches them shapes and colors and develops fine motor skills.
Unfortunately, the lid to the box is very sharp and apparently fun to play with.
I threw it out after one of my boys scrached his face with it.
My boys are 20 months and now know all the shapes and colors in this toy.

I bought it for my both kids(son and daughter) when they were 1-1.5 years. It helped to identify colors, shapes, stacking, building skills, differentation of the shape/colors etc., We were impressed about this creative toys.

From the main picture, I thought I was getting the perfect toy for my autistic daughter. Instead, I received something else that she broke in the matter of minutes of opening. Make sure you know that the picture you see of coaster that looks like it's able to be mounted on a wall is NOT what you're gonna buy. I was very disappointed because I bought as a birthday gift for her. :-(
