Interesting, fun, and eduational Feb 17, 2011

The product comes with 1 packet of bean seeds, and 1 packet of pea seeds. It recommends using 4 seeds total at one time in the grow window. There are probably like 40+ seeds provided, so theres plenty. The directions are simple and says to germinate the seeds for 2-3 days in a cup with moist paper towels before planting in the soil. This was a success as all of the seeds germinated and are growing pretty fast - about a half inch per day so far!
The instructions say to use 40 out of the 50 included soil pellets. Only having 10 left, it only comes with enough for one use, but im sure you can just use your own soil if you choose to do it a second time.
I remember having this experiment in school and I found it very interesting. You can see the roots grow below the soil and learn how seeds work. This would be very good in a classroom setting. It includes a little chart to track the progress of the plants, and also includes information and diagrams on seeds. It is a very economical way to teach plant growing. I think it would also be great as a homeschooling project, or even just a fun experiment. Checking the plants every day to see their progress is fun and also teaches how to keep notes and track progress.
I added just a little bit more water to the 40 soil pellets then they said because it seemed slightly dry. The soil absorbs it and expands immediately. I planted the germinated seeds today and I expect them to do well. Next time I may plant some carrots.
I highly recommend this product if you wish to teach kids about planting, seeds, and roots, and also to provide a fun experiment. If you wish, you can also plant whatever seeds you wish. The size is perfect for a windowsill.

This is a new spin on pretty old tradition of school-age children planting pea/bean seeds, and watching them sprout :) It is fun to make, and very easy. It also comes with a chart to record observations. There are plenty of extra seeds left, and soil if you want to do it again! Its a lot better than just using the standard cup or small planter!
Kids rush to see the growth every day! Jan 17, 2012
By Krista Sykes My 7yr old and his little sister planted the seeds and "tada!" they grew. Both kids (and my husband & I) love watching the roots grow and the plants sprout. We just had leaves appear this morning. Very cool!!! Both kids are already thinking of growing more....
Does what it says....but a little flimsy Jan 11, 2012

This is a neat little project for kids, mine (6 and 8) enjoyed planting the seeds which are now growing. It is cool to see the root system developing, and the pamphlet inside gave a nice description of a seed. We split open one of the seeds so they could see it looked just like the pamphlet described it. I learned a little bit, too. My only complaint is that the viewing window is made of extremely flimsy plastic, which could easily be destroyed by eager little gardeners. I hoped for something a little sturdier, but for the price I guess that's what you can expect. But, all in all, it is a good learning experience for my kids and they are enjoying it.
Nice to watch Aug 05, 2011
By Tallandslender Ibought htis for my boys to watch and learn. It is a good idea and they check on it every now and then, but I am the one taking care of it. Can't rate it low for that. It is nice to wactch everyday. My boys are not interested in watching plants grow. My younger son picked the green beans that come with it and within a few days.. it takes off. I have it in my kitchen window and waiting for the sprouts to grow. Grows very fast so kids will see a difference everyday. Very nice and worth the money if your child likes to watch things grow.
