Great Alphabet Learning Toys! Apr 30, 2009
By Brandon J. Fick I bought these at a consignment sale and my son loves them. They are one of his favorite toys. He is obsessed with the alphabet and loves to line these up in order. We haven't even tried using them with sand yet. I also don't see how they could be a choking hazard; they are fairly large.
These are great for preschoolers Apr 19, 2012
By Mama Nikki My son is having to re-learn his alphabet and get familiar with letters. We haven't used them in the sandbox yet, but he lines them up on the floor and picks out certain letters. They are colorful and a decent size.
Slippery to grab, but great overall Jul 27, 2011
By KKJ My 2-year-old daughter is obsessed with letters and learning to read right now, and we just got her a sand and water table to play with this summer, so these seemed like the perfect things for her. Overall, these are great sand molds -- nice size, easy to read when stamped into the sand, durable and good quality. The only problem is that the tops of the letters (the outside of the molds) are angled, so when little hands (and adult ones, too!) try to pick them up after smashing them into the damp sand, it's hard to get a grip on them to pull them out.
I'm guessing that they are angled so that they leave their impressions more neatly in the sand, without sand clinging and getting stuck inside the molds as it might if the sides were straight (not sure how to describe this more eloquently without consulting a physicist...). It would be nice, though, if there were spots built into the tops for fingers to grip, or textured/raised edges or something. They are especially slippery when you've got wet fingers, which kind of goes along with playing with wet sand, after all.
Great in and out of the sandbox Jun 13, 2011

We purchased these for our four and two year old to play with in the sandbox. They enjoyed them just as much indoors spelling words and playing letter games. In the sandbox, they enjoy stamping out words. The only problem I have is that the letters are sometimes hard to pick up out of the sand without messing up the letter you've stamped, but it's not a huge issue for us. Still highly recommended.

While the parents relaxed in their beach chairs the kids enjoyed using the molds spelling out words we gave them. Kept them entertained and busy for hours. Highly recommend!
