4Useful,but you cannot compare volumes easily, in spite of the claim that they can be filled.  Nov 02, 2011
By Two kids mom "scienceteachermom"
I ordered these without knowing exactly how large they were. For size comparison I have taken a photo of a sample along with a can of soda for reference. They are useful for students who have difficulty visualizing the geometric solids. They have small holes in them, so in theory you could fill them with water and compare volumes. However, practically this is nearly impossible. The liquid does not pour easily out of the small hole and it is impossible to get it all out. Sand does not work either. So they are neither "Easy to fill" nor "easy to clean" They are also fairly fragile, one has already met its demise by being dropped on the classroom floor. That said, they are much less expensive than wood models, and being able to see through them allows you to hold them next to each other with the surfaces touching and the kids can see the surface that they share is then a different color.

5Great and Fillable  May 01, 2012
By Lauren E. Doty
I use these with my 3, 5, and 8 year old and they love them. I do tell my kids to be gentle with them as they are not super sturdy. Sturdy enough when used with care. We found these to be fillable and cleaned out well. There is a small piece that comes out of the bottom which enables the entire base to be removed. I'm assuming previous reviewers only removed the small circle and not the entire base to fill/clean. These are also lovely to use on a light table.

3It's not the best but Okay for the price  Dec 12, 2011
By Ivy Koteras
I was expecting better quality then it is. I just open the box today and several bases was already knocked off in the shipment. After putting it back it was still fairly loose. I plan on removing all the base for now and see how my 33 months old likes it. The size is just right as I plan on using it on the light table.

5Great for early learning!  Dec 08, 2011

I used these with my kindergarten students when I was teaching them about solid shapes. They
liked the colors and interchangeable pieces.

5Excellent hands-on manipulative  Nov 06, 2011
By allaboutme "allaboutme"
This is a perfect hands-on manipulative if you teach any element of geometry. Sometimes it helps students to see exactly what you're referring to in 3D.

1/1/12: I'm editing my review now that I've used these more in my class. Since I teach a state testing grade, my students have to know how to do geometry on paper and not just by using manipulatives. This product really helps me bridge that gap. I introduce the concept with these then I move on to counting edges and faces, etc on paper. When my students struggle with the paper portion of it, we go back to these and I let them hold it while counting. Then we refer back to the paper. These have been a life saver in my small groups.

I'm not sure if the product description says it, but these have small clear holes that are plugged. The little plugs fall out very easily (con), but the whole point of the holes is to use them to fill and teach volume (pro!). When I first bought these, I intended to use them only for faces, edges, vertices. Now I intend to use them to teach volume, too.

I can't say enough good about Learning Resources ans their products.
